B.I.O.N.I.C. Extended Illness Teams
The B.I.O.N.I.C. Team reaches out to students facing challenging times. In this post, the individual Team we are highlighting is the Extended Illness Team – helping sick students. One of the most stressful things about missing school for being sick is making up the work. Learning the missed material and completing the homework before you return can be difficult. If students aren’t acknowledged or reached out to during these times, they may feel overwhelmed. Here is one of our former leaders explaining the Extended Illness Team.
For sick students who miss more than five days, the B.I.O.N.I.C. Team:
- Calls the student at home to check on how they’re doing.
- Sends a get-well packet to help them: a spreadsheet to keep track of homework, tutoring information, a personalized card, an inspiration saying, and other helpful information.
- The B.I.O.N.I.C. Team may visit the student at home if they continue to miss weeks of school.
