B.I.O.N.I.C. Family Outreaches to Make a Difference this Summer!
It’s almost Summer! B.I.O.N.I.C. knows that families are always looking for activities to fill the calendar during summer break from school. How about including some activities to do as a family for bonding and also to make a difference in your neighborhood and community! We have planned some Family Outreach Activities for you to plan together as a family to help your kids learn the importance of reaching out to make a difference with some great prizes you can win as a family. We are also hosting two Bully Prevention Webinars on the evenings of July 15th, 19th, and 20th about bully prevention. We have heard of an increase in bullying in schools the last few months, and we know that as kids are gathering in groups this summer in the neighborhoods, camps, church, and other settings, there can be some flare-ups of bullying in those places too. We want to help you equip your children for any situations they may encounter or witness. And for those who would like more training in this area, we are starting a S.T.O.P. Bullying Course that we have seen the need for preparation for the upcoming school year.:
S – Support your child by creating awareness around what bullying is and what to do if you see it
T – Take action after a bullying incident to recover your child’s emotional well-being quickly
O – Obtain strategies to safeguard your student from being bullied
P – Prevent future bullying in your community by empowering your circle, neighborhood, school, church, and realm of influence.

Family Outreaches
This summer we are challenging every family – no matter if it’s a family of two or ten – to do different weekly outreaches to make a difference in their community. On Friday of each week we will send an e-mail about a category of an outreach for the following week. Then we encourage you to have a family meeting to talk through the idea for the next week, and then plan out the outreach as a family. For example, the suggestion for the first week in June is to cheer up a senior citizen or several. Think through any senior citizens you know of who may need some help or encouragement. Do you have a grandparent or an elderly neighbor, call them (on a speaker phone so the whole family can hear) to ask what they need or how you can encourage them – landscaping, a picnic, organizing their garage, etc. Or how about contacting a local senior living center and asking how many residents are there and if your family can make a card for every resident. Or do a search on the Internet for “free coloring book pages” to color a picture for every resident. Then talk about a day and time for the outreach. After the call, use this form to sit down as a family and plan the details of the outreach giving each family member responsibilities in carrying out the activity. Then submit the outreach information here by Saturday night (11:59 pm) of that week. Then every two weeks this summer we will be drawing names of some families who did the outreach during those two weeks for some great prizes.
