The B.I.O.N.I.C. “10-10 – I Care Day” (which will be “9-9 – I Care Day” from now on) challenges everyone to reach out to make a difference in the lives of 10 other people around them.

A Recipient of our School Tragedy Poster

"Ms. Austin you won’t believe what happened. I signed the school tragedy poster the other day that we sent for that soccer player who died at that high school. Last night I got a Facebook friend request from a girl who was my best friend through first grade, but then she moved. We haven’t been in touch since then. I was so excited to hear from her, so I called her. She said, ‘I saw your school’s B.I.O.N.I.C. poster today and thought that was really nice…and then I saw your name. I burst into tears! The guy who died was my boyfriend, and I was thinking about suicide. I was so lonely. Then I saw your name, and I knew I would be okay!’”

“I usually hear about what is “wrong” with our young people. How refreshing it was to see this group and to truly understand what is “right” with our youth. In another of my roles I work with older adults in the community where I often hear concern about our future and of our young people. I regularly refer to the B.I.O.N.I.C. Team as an example to assure our community that our future is in good hands.”

“When I think about everything that I’ve learned in B.I.O.N.I.C. its almost too overwhelming because of the impact it’s had on almost every single asset of my life. During the first year of B.I.O.N.I.C. it was an entire culture shift of the entire school. It was kind of like B.I.O.N.I.C. breathed a whole new type of spirit of caring. When B.I.O.N.I.C. came it was an entire shift to have people start looking at the lives of each kid beyond how you’re performing at school.”

"I don’t really know how they found out about my Grandma but it was really nice that they actually did something about it instead of just like saying they’re sorry and stuff. So it was really nice."

"I was shocked when I opened the door and there was to see such a big group of people. I was expecting one or two people. I didn’t know what to expect. And there was a bunch of wonderful people that came to the door. I bet you there were 6 or 8 in the group and they were so kind in their comments and so nice about everything and so sincere that I was moved to tears.."

"Last year my Grandfather had passed away, and I had been out o the building for a couple of days. When I got back, two of the B.I.O.N.I.C. kids brought me a Starbucks card for me. I think its pretty amazing to see these young ones who can reach out to someone they might not know and offer them that kind of comfort.”

A principal tells how she was impacted

My mother did pass away last May and once again Ms. Austin and the B.I.O.N.I.C. students came out and reached out to me to help me through a time of real sorrow. And then certainly when I came on board, right away the first group I heard from and received a gift when I was still at the other school was from the B.I.O.N.I.C. Team and so it made me feel welcome.
